Plymouth AirportThe Plymouth Board of Aviation Commissioners decided at Tuesday’s meeting to urge contractor Phend and Brown to begin the runway project earlier than the company’s suggestion of a May 4th start.  The airport will be closed from the beginning of the project which is scheduled to last for 61 days while the runway is widened to 75 feet and resurfaced.  Phend and Brown has suggested that delays would be likely in April which would extend the completion date beyond the projected 61 days.  The board would like to see the project started on April 1st despite possible delays.

Airplanes will have to be relocated during the construction and Plymouth Skysports will have to either move their operation or shut down during construction.  They have said that their business picks up later in the summer and they would like the project completed as early as possible.

In other business, Plymouth Skysports wants to add a parachute repair station to their operation.  In order to do that, they need more room.  The board will rent them the space currently used by the Girl Scouts.  The Girl Scouts have used that space rent free for many years.  The board is willing to assist the Girl Scouts in finding a new location.

The Plymouth Aviation Board also open bids for clearing and brubbing the 5.2 acres needed for a proposed AWOS.  The high bid was $49,600 and the low bid was $20,550.50.  The bids were taken under advisement until the next meeting.
