The 4-H/ FFA Area X Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event (CDE) took place at the Starke County fairgrounds on Thursday, April 17, 2014.  The following Plymouth FFA members participated: Lauren Goddard, Kaitlyn Hollar, Makayla Fox, Jason Slonaker, Lilly Bottorff, and Frannie Bottorff.  Members judged eight classes of beef, meat goats, sheep and swine and then presented oral reasons explaining their decisions for each class ranking.

The Plymouth FFA also participated in the Indiana FFA State Welding Career Development Event at Delphi High School on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.  The following Plymouth FFA members participated: Beginning Division- Damien White and Trenton Hall; Advanced Division- Tucker Pletcher and Bryce Schollaert.  Jason Slonaker also assisted in the Welding CDE team preparation.

Students work as individuals through various welding practicums involving arc welding and mig welding.  FFA members also completed a written test of their knowledge of welding and metallurgy.

The Career Development Event Awards Program recognizes excellence in leadership development through the FFA program.  The program rewards FFA Members for exceptional accomplishments in progressing toward specific career objectives in the agriculture industry.  FFA members develop and enhance their communications, critical and analytical thinking, decision-making, and presentation skills.  Through Career Development Events and other leadership training, the Indiana FFA encourages students to maximize their development and potential to contribute to the agricultural industry and to our local and global communities.

FFA is a national organization that makes a positive difference in the lives of over 540,379 high school students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.  Through participation in this Career Development Event FFA Members are “Bringing out the leader in you.”

The Plymouth FFA chapter will hold their annual awards banquet on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 7 pm in the Plymouth High School Cafeteria.
