Today in Valparaiso, Governor Mike Pence signed into law a road funding bill that will invest up to another $400 million dollars for next generation highway expansion. The funds will be put to use on projects immediately, creating new jobs for Hoosiers now. This move comes after Governor Pence dedicated hundreds of millions in additional dollars for Indiana’s roads and bridges last year.
“Our infrastructure makes Indiana a national transportation hub and a global distribution powerhouse, and it is one of the reasons Indiana continues to be recognized as a great place to do business,” said Governor Pence. “The legislation I signed today will put Hoosiers to work now and make sure we remain the Crossroads of America.”
Under HEA 1002, $200 million will go toward projects immediately and the state may invest another $200 million after December’s revenue forecasts and Budget Committee review. This legislation will create an estimated 9,800 jobs and will expand the state’s lane capacity on major highways in Indiana, enhancing Indiana’s position as the Crossroads of America.
Under Governor Pence’s leadership, since the end of December 2012 the state has made $800 million in new money available for roads and bridges, including $200 million for local governments.
