03/12/14 Plymouth Kiwanains are hoping to appeal to Marshall County residents’ sweet tooth in an effort to wipe out a disease that is killing children around the world.
Plymouth Kiwanis Club President Tammy Boys said “The Kiwanis Club of Plymouth is selling Fannie May candy bars for $1.00 each as a fundraiser to help support The Eliminate Project. This is a global effort to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. The effects of this disease are excruciating—newborn babies suffer repeated and painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. Kiwanis is dedicated to making a difference by partnering with UNICEF to combat this deadly disease and put an end to the suffering that is the result.”
Kiwanis International is hoping to raise $110 million from clubs worldwide. Millions of women and their children in 25 countries are at risk from the disease. The deadly disease claims nearly 60,000 babies and a large number of women ach year.
Boys added “Please help us in supporting this project by purchasing some wonderful Fannie May chocolates. Chocolate has many health benefits and Easter is fast approaching.”
There are a number of varieties available including mint chocolate, almond milk chocolate, caramel, mint cookie, crisped rice and peanut butter. The 1.8 ounce bars are available from any Kiwanis member. The club hopes to raise more than $2,000 to donate for the cause.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.
