LaPaz/North Township Fire Chief Chris Oginsky says Tuesday night’s house fire on 5C Road was so severe that a cause cannot be determined.

The Chief said, “The night of the fire we had to use the services of Haskin’s Inc. to assist us with extinguishing of the balance of the fire which was in the basement.”  He continued, “The Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office sent an investigator out on an immediate call out due to the number and severity of those injured. The Investigator and I determined that the fire had originated in the basement.  Due to the extent of the damages to the structure and having to remove a vast amount of debris a definitive cause was not able to be determined. The Official cause of this fire will be listed as Undetermined.”

The Kaser family had insurance and they have temporarily housed them in a motel.

A relative of the family, Chalisa Jensen has organized a donation drop off location at the Plymouth UPS Store in the Kroger Shopping Plaza on North Michigan Street.  The family lost everything and will need household items and furniture, linens, and clothing.  Clothing needed includes men’s pants 34/32, shirts sizes medium or large and size 10 shoes.  Women’s clothes include pants sizes 16/18 and 22/24, shirts sizes XL and XXL and shoes 8 and a half or 9 and 7 or 7 and a half.
