01/15/14 Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) Tuesday joined seven Senate Republicans in a press conference in the Capitol after Majority Leader Reid rejected their compromise proposal to reform and pay for unemployment insurance benefits.

“If you recall just last week, Senator Reid said, ‘amendments have no place in this process,’” said Coats. “There’s a better way to legislate than simply one party dictating to the other, ‘this is it, take it or leave it.’ Hopefully, we’ve opened up the debate about the rights of the minority to participate in the process of legislating on behalf of the American people.”

Coats was joined by Senators Dean Heller (R-Nev.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio).
