01/06/14 A two vehicle accident on Friday morning claimed the life of a Granger teen.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to the accident at US 31 and 7B Road at 11:05 Friday morning.

The investigation found that the 1999 Honda driven by 19 year old Madelyn Stephenson of Granger was southbound in the driving lane of US 31 approaching the intersection of 7B Road.  A 1999 Kenilworth semi tractor-trailer was also south bound on US 31 in the passing lane, behind the Honda.  For an unknown reason the Honda driven by Stephenson turned into the path of the semi.  The semi struck the passenger car in the driver’s side and both vehicles came to rest in the median of US 31.

Plymouth Fire and EMS extricated the driver of the Honda and she was flown from the scene to Memorial Hospital by MedFlight.  Madelyn Stephenson died from her injuries she sustained in the crash at Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the semi, 44 year old Brock Sanders of South Bend was not injured in the accident.

The investigation is still ongoing by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.  The Indiana State Police assisted in the accident investigation.  The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank all the citizens who stopped and rendered aid and assisted in the incident.

It is believed that alcohol is not a factor in the accident.
