09/04/13 Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) accident which occurred at 5293 3rd Rd. in Bremen. The accident occurred at approximately 7:50pm and resulted in serious injuries to Sydney Moren, 10, of Bremen.

Investigating officers report that Sydney Moren was a passenger in a Polaris Ranger ATV with two other juveniles when the accident occurred. The 15 year old operator of the ATV was traveling across rough terrain and attempted to execute a sharp left turn which caused the ATV to flip over onto it’s right side, ejecting all three occupants.

Sydney Moren sustained a broken right femur while the other two juveniles sustained minor abrasions. Sydney was transported by Bremen EMS to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of her broken leg.

The ATV was found to have functioning seatbelts, however they were not worn by the ATV occupants nor did any of the occupants wear protective helmets. Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage the use of any and all safety equipment that comes with your ATV as well as a properly fitting helmet for all occupants.

An online ATV safety course can be found at www.offroad-ed.com/in/index.htm and should be supplemented by supervised operating instruction for beginners before they are allowed to operate any ATV. The Marshall County Sheriffs’ Department assisted at the scene along with Bremen EMS.
