06/11/13 Congresswoman Jackie Walorski released the following statement regarding the commencement of Department of Defense civilian furloughs:
“The State of Indiana has been hit hard by sequestration. Effective this week, over 10,000 Hoosier civilian defense workers must take 11 unwanted furlough days, including employees at Grissom Air Reserve Base in Miami County. It is unfair that hardworking Hoosiers, especially those aiding in the defense of our country, are forced to take a pay cut because Washington cannot find common ground to replace sequestration.
“National Security should never be sacrificed due to the President’s failed leadership, jeopardizing military readiness and weakening our defense at home and abroad. The White House and Senate must come to the table and work with the House on a real solution to replace sequestration.”
