07/09/13 The Plymouth School Board will convene on Tuesday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m. for a regular meeting. The Board will meet prior to the public meeting in an executive session to discuss the performance of an individual employee.

Several items included in the pubic meeting consent agenda can be approved through one motion. According to school administrators, most of the items listed in the consent agenda have gone through Board subcommittee review and recommendation. Among other items, the Board will consider non-resident student admissions for the 2013-2014 school year. Requests for admission for those students residing out of the school district are considered for educational purposes. Parents, guardians or custodians of nonresistant students must provide transportation, but are not charged tuition. The superintendent or a building principal may deny a request for admission, including the consideration of class sizes.

The capacity limits that could be established by the Board for the 2013-2014 school year are as follows: Kindergarten, 325 students; Grades 1-2, 325 students per grade; Grades 3-4, 325 students per grade; Grades 5-8, 325 students per grade; and Grades 9-12, unlimited. If the total number of students requesting transfer to the Plymouth School Corporation exceeds capacity limits, a lottery will be held at the following board meeting to determine acceptance. Deadline of acceptance of students during the 2013-2014 school year would be June 4, 2014, if approved by the Board. The Board will consider establishing capacity and deadlines on first reading.

The Board is expected to consider a number of appointments including James Phillips to a newly formed position of Director of Safety and Security. If approved, Phillips’ effective date would be July 10, 2013. A member of the Board will be appointed to the Safety Committee during the business transactions portion of the meeting.

Although the meeting is open to the pubic, comments from the audience are limited to agenda items only.
