11/24/10 Tuesday, Congressman Joe Donnelly released the following statement after President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Chrysler Group LLP CEO Sergio Marchionne made the announcement that Chrysler intends to invest $843 million in its Kokomo facilities to produce future generation front-wheel drive transmissions.  This investment would fund the installation of equipment and special tooling to modernize the transmission plants and the casting plant and should retain nearly 2,250 jobs.

“I was honored to speak to the hardworking men and women at the Chrysler transmission plant in Kokomo today and to be a part of the announcement of this historic investment,” said Donnelly.  “Should the tax abatement from the City of Kokomo be approved, Chrysler will have invested $1.1 billion in the Kokomo plants this year: the largest investment in one year in a single community in the entire country.  This is proof that American companies recognize that we have the best workforce in the country right here in north central Indiana and that investing in Hoosiers is the way to move our economy forward.  I am proud to represent this community in Congress, and look forward to more investments in communities across Indiana’s Second Congressional District as our business owners and entrepreneurs continue to lead our economic recovery.”
