11/19/12 Over 100 adults and kids enjoyed an evening of dancing and physical fitness while, at the same time, raising $500 for the Playground Fund at Menominee Elementary.

Menominee Principal Michael Dunn expressed his appreciation to all those who joined in the fun. Dunn said the idea for the event was the brain-child of parent Marla Murasko. He said Murasko brought up the idea at a PTO meeting of finding ways to get kids more active. Helping to organize the activities was Carrie Schadek. Schadek has coordinated a number of special events for the school in the past.

The Dance Marathon held on November 16 was the first of a series of events planned. Dunn said, “In an effort to help children grow up healthier and on the path to a healthy future, Menominee is starting a “Let’s Move Campaign”. “Studies show that, “the healthy, physically active child is more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful.”

Dunn said the Dance Marathon offered a structured dance exercise. He said, “The event was for students and their entire families. “As parents and guardians of our students, we set the example for our kids and our examples will help them grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams.” Dunn said.

The coordinators also used the event to help raise money for the Playground Fund. Children were encouraged to get sponsors and/or donations from family, friends, neighbors, and local businesses. The $500 raised will be added to funds that have been set aside to expand the playground.
