08/28/12 Residents and friends at Miller’s Senior Living Community enjoyed a creative experience at Moon Tree Studios on Saturday afternoon.  They engaged in a beginning clay session in which they were able to create two clay projects during the three hour experience.

Guided by artist Laura Garza, the group made clay “coil” bowls.  Although each student used the same process to make create the bowl; each bowl design turned out distinctively different.  After the finishing the first part of the bowls, they were set on a shelf to air dry until time to be fired in the kiln.

The group then moved on to a “pinch pot” process in which they all made a cat bank.  Again, the creative process took over and each cat had a distinct personality of its own.  The cats were set up to dry and the class was over for the day.  The experience will continue on Saturday, September 15 when the class will glaze their projects.

Moon Tree Studios is a ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.  It challenges people to experience mindfulness as they fearlessly explore the interconnectedness of art, nature, and the Spirit within.  Moon Tree is located at 9601 Union Rd. in Donaldson.  For information on their schedule go to www.moontreestudios.org.
