03/07/12 Twenty-four schools competed in the 2012 Rotary Quizbowl State Championships held last Saturday at Ancilla College. Large, medium and schools competed, with Melissa Christiansen from the Plymouth Rotary Club noting, “Hopefully heralding an era of increased recognition and participation for small schools.”

Each team played seven to nine round robin games before the top two teams in each division faced off in the Championship round.

Rotary Club member Melissa Christiansen said, “It was a good day and the kids all did a nice job!  They could answer some of the most obscure questions.”   Members of Rotary and Ancilla College staff were the readers and students from Culver Military Academy kept score for the teams.

    Top teams received cash prizes as well as reference materials from Encyclopedia Britannica.  The top fifteen individual all-stars each received a copy of the “2012 World Almanac and Book of Facts.”

Division A results – State Champions:  North Miami HS, Runners Up:  North White HS, 3rd Place: Indiana School for the Deaf, 4th Place: Argos HS

Division AA results – State Champions: Mount Vernon HS, Runners Up: Rushville Consolidated, 3rd Place: Bremen HS, 4th Place: Frankton HS

Division AAA results – State Champions: Culver Academies, Runners Up: West Lafayette Harrison HS, 3rd Place: St. Joseph’s High School (South Bend), 4th Place: Zionsville HS

  The Bremen Kids are Jack Jordan, Chelsea Anglin, Andy LaFree, and Abraham Hall.

    The Culver Academies Kids are John Van Duyn, Andrew Van Duyn, Jon Weitgenant, Adam Freymiller
