The National Weather Service in North Webster has issued a “Winter Weather Advisory” for our area beginning at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, and continuing through 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night.
Snow will spread rapidly north early Wednesday morning with total accumulations of between 4-7 inches possible. Most of the snow will fall before noon on Wednesday with lighter snow amounts during the afternoon. Winds of between 15 mph to 30 mph will cause blowing and drifting issues especially in open areas.
Snow-covered roads will make travel hazardous. We will see an increase in the number of slide-offs and accidents. Delays are possible. Blowing snow can reduce visibility and may also result in drifts across roads making them difficult or impossible to navigate.
As a way to be prepared drivers should check their vehicle emergency kit inventory (scraper, shovel, kitty litter, cellphone charger, extra winter weather gear, blanket, flashlight, water, non-perishable snacks, tow strap, or chain). Be sure to keep your gas tank at least half full. Give yourself plenty of extra time to reach your destination. Increase your following distance and reduce your speed. Remember to drive defensively.
