On Saturday, August 20th Fulton County Deputy Mitch Scott conducted a traffic stop at U.S. 31 near old U.S. Highway 31.  While in contact with the driver, 46-year-old John P Madden of Evarts, Kentucky.  Deputy Scott suspected Madden to be involved in criminal activity so he requested a K9 unit.

Deputy Ryan Utter and K9 Rapid responded to the traffic stop and conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle.  K9 Rapid indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.  A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in officers locating over 45-pounds of suspected marijuana, 17 grams of suspected methamphetamine, THC vape cartridges, THC honey, and a loaded handgun.

John Madden was arrested and preliminarily charged with Possession of Methamphetamine as a Level 3 Felony, Dealing in Marijuana as a Level 5 Felony, Possession of Marijuana as an A Misdemeanor, and Possession of Paraphernalia as a C Misdemeanor. 

The Rochester Police Department assisted the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office at the traffic stop.

All suspects identified are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
