On Friday, Plymouth resident Dustin Schafer filed as a candidate for the Marshall County Council, District 4 for the November general election.
Schafer is a graduate of LaVille Sr. High School and Indiana University South Bend. He attended and graduated from Leadership Marshall County, Class XXII – a local leadership training program that helped him gain a comprehensive view of the organizations, businesses, communities, and people that makeup Marshall County.
Schafer’s focus professionally and personally is public service and working for the most vulnerable in the community. Previously, Schafer has worked as a preschool teacher at the South Bend Center for the Homeless and as Director for the Marshall County Neighborhood Center. He was appointed to serve on the county committee that investigated and approved Shady Rest as the home for David’s Courage, a faith-based program supporting area men struggling against addiction and working for recovery.
Married for 18 years to Angie Rupchock-Schafer, they are the parents of two teenage sons. Schafer is an avid artist and enjoys the small-town life that living in Marshall County makes possible. “I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Marshall County Council,” he said. “I look forward to introducing myself to voters and a respectful and spirited campaign. I will be a voice for common sense and progress in Marshall County.”
