08/18/11 A Plymouth man is behind bars after he falsely reported that he was kidnapped and battered, to allegedly receive sympathy from his girlfriend.
According to a press release from the Plymouth Police Department, police responded to a call just before 4 a.m. Friday morning that a injured person was at a residence in the 300 block of Lewis Street in Plymouth. When officers arrived, the victim, identified as James Garbison Jr., said that he had been kidnapped and beaten.
During the interview, Garbison initially stated that he had been kidnapped by several subjects and transported to an unknown location and beaten. He said that he was then dropped off near his home.
Police say Garbison also reported to police on the evening of August 12 that he had been battered by three subjects. After further questioning Garbison admitted that his injuries were self-inflicted and that both reports were false. He said that he made up both stories to get sympathy from his girlfriend.
In the early morning hours of August 9, the Plymouth Police Department received a report indicating that Garbison had battered a female and destroyed her cell phone.
He was transported to the Marshall County Jail on the morning of August 13 and has been formally charged with two counts of false informing, domestic battery and criminal mischief. His bond is set at $1,000 cash.
