The Heartland Artists Gallery is gearing up for the highly anticipated return of their annual Art in the Street Festival. The event will take place this Saturday, July 31st, from 10-3 on Michigan Street in downtown Plymouth. Admission is free and open to the public.
Artists and artisans from surrounding areas will be selling their works including acrylic, oil, pastel, and watercolor paintings, mixed media, pottery, stained glass, handmade jewelry, and much more. Visitors will have the opportunity to have their caricatures drawn by a professional artist and try their hand at throwing a pot on the potter’s wheel. The gallery will be open to visitors looking for more art on display.
This festival always makes sure to give the kids an array of hands-on arts experiences. The Heartland Artists will be offering face painting and art activities such as rock painting, an art scavenger hunt, and recycled art activities. Handmade musical instruments with the Wild Rose Moon and the Heartland Artists will ensure the kids experience other art forms (and make some good noise!), and they can contribute to a couple of collaborative art pieces with the Heartland Artists and Marshall County Tourism that will be on display after the festival. Twist and Smile Balloons will make a return with fun balloon animals for the kids.
Art in the Street would not be complete without music and dance performances. Local individuals and groups will perform on stage and include Nate Crawford, Adam Ockerman, Thomas Sampson, Savannah Paxton, Dylan Hall, Expressions Dance Studio, Lifeplex Dance Academy, Doug Harsch and The Wild Rose Moon Band. The music begins with Nate Crawford at 9:40 and the stage lineup can be found on the Heartland Artists Gallery’s website and social media pages.
Food and drink are also considered an art form and will be available for purchase at the festival. This year, Chubby Buddies BBQ and Crave On food trucks will be selling their delicious barbeque and eclectic tacos, and some newcomers to the group – Deysi’s Tacos from Rochester, Plymouth High School Culinary Arts, and the REES Theater will be offering some mouthwatering authentic Mexican fare, sweets, and popcorn. The wine and beer tent will also be open with Opie’s Deli & Office selling beer and the Heartland Artists selling wine.

I think most of us are all eager to get out and celebrate — and celebrating the arts in our wonderful downtown is a great way for us to come together.
