The Plymouth School Board held on short regular meeting on Tuesday, May 5 followed by an executive session.
Board members Larry Pinkerton, Allison Shook and Robin Hupka, along with Superintendent Andy Hartley were present in the Administration Room. Todd Samuelson and Melissa Christiansen joined the meeting virtually.
Hartley spoke briefly to how the upcoming school year may be handled. In response to the current COVID -19 crisis, Hartley said they are looking at both possibilities and procedures as they prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. He said they are looking at practices and protocols to put in place, with the input of teachers and , to provide safety.
He said Governor Eric Holcomb has advised that no graduation ceremonies could be held until after June 30. He indicated that they are still hoping to have a in-person ceremony for baccalaureate and graduation perhaps later in the summer. He went on to say that there would be notifications sent out to all parties involved.
The new Lincoln Junior High School continues to be on schedule for completion. Hartley said they anticipate having just a punch list by the end of the month. According to Hartley, the classroom and media center materials are packed and ready to move.
All the student’s personal items have been cleared form the current facility. Staff members cleaned out the lockers and bagged items. Parents were able to drive through and retrieve their student’s items.
Items no longer needed for the new building will be auctioned off at some point. Hartley said the auction will now be online and there will be a notice published for a date of the auction.
At this point, the June school board meeting is set for June 2. It was noted that it is Election Day and there will be further discussion on whether to re-schedule.
