06/17/11 Just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 14th the Plymouth Police Department received a call from Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center of a patient that had fled the ER.
34 year old Griffin F. Sterling of Plymouth had been taken to the hospital by his girlfriend because he had ingested a large amount of pills. While waiting in the lobby the girlfriend told him he may have to be committed so he fled in the wooded area near the hospital. Officers began a search and during that search Mr. Sterling approached Officer Derek Workman and was transported back to the hospital.
In the early morning of Wednesday, June 15th around 1:50am Plymouth Police Officer Shively responded to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for a welfare check on Sterling. He had become agitated at his girlfriend and threw a chair against the wall. He also was using very bad language toward the staff in a threatening manner. Mr. Sterling was told several times to calm down and to keep quiet but refused. At one point Officer Shively and a male nurse had to take him to the floor and restrain him in hand cuffs.
Once he had clearance to be released to the hospital, he was booked into the Marshall County Jail for Criminal Mischief, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Law Enforcement. Sterling was released on a $1000.00 cash bond at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday. He is scheduled to appear in Marshall Court #2 on July 19th at 8:30am.
