06/10/11 Jerry Nikitas and Pastor Ronald Liechty, members of the “T-squared Initiative” were bursting with excitement this week as they announced ground breaking ceremonies for the Marshall County Community Resource Center.
Years in coming, the long awaited ground breaking ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 15th at 11 a.m. on the site formerly known as the Fulton Marshall Co-op on Adams Street. The property is located 2 blocks from the Marshall County Court House and the Marshall County Neighborhood Center and four blocks from Plymouth’s central business district all within easy walking distance for many of the people the agencies who will be housed there are serving.
The Community Resource Center was the original brain child of the late, Dr. Kent Guild and Pastor Liechty back in 1985. They along with others were concerned with making things better for the citizens in the community.
The Resource Center will house several agencies including the Work One Center, Real Services, the Center Township Trustee, the State of Indiana Family and Social Services Administration Department of Family Resources, WIC, and the Marshall County Housing Authority. These agencies will nearly fill the 30,000 square foot building. It is estimated that only 2,000 to 3,000 square feet are still available and conversations with other agencies are giving the committee a feeling that there may be a waiting list by the time of the grand opening scheduled for early spring 2012.
Part of the delay in getting the project underway included the requirement to acquiring the property prior the receiving the grant. Thanks to a grant from the Marshall County Community Foundation that totaled a quarter of a million dollars the committee was able to purchase and then demolish the former Co-op property.
