The Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club announced to member families earlier this month that they have raised the needed funds to build a new facility. They also announced the closing of the facility they club has been in for 21 years.
Kids who have been going to the Boys & Girls Club on East Jefferson Street in Plymouth will head back to an alternative location after the Thanksgiving holiday break.
The last day for the East Jefferson Street location was Tuesday, November 23rd. Today kids will move to Jefferson Elementary School with regular hours. After school operating will be until 8 p.m. while during the Christmas break hours will be 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.
The Plymouth Community School Corporation has offered the facility that will include the gym, cafeteria, media center and playground. They are also going to transport elementary students and kids in Riverside and Lincoln Junior High…kids in the high school will have to walk to Jefferson Elementary.
Parents picking up their students will need to park on the west side of the building, in the Centennial Park lot and walk to the front of the school to gather their kids.
Demolition of the original building is currently planned for January 2017. The new gymnasium will remain for the new building.
While the Boys and Girls Club has gathered enough funds for the building project, they are beginning their public campaign to gather additional funds. The board of directors hopes to raise an additional $600,000 during the public campaign.
The additional funds will help allow for additional expansion of the teen center, education center and canteen area so the club can serve more youngsters. Additional funding will provide more computers, furnishings and equipment for these areas. Finally, the expanded budget will enable the Club to create a permanent endowment fund for long-term maintenance and repair of the new clubhouse.
The Public Campaign for Boys and Girls Club of Marshall County will fund urgent and clearly articulated youth and community needs. The campaign will ensure the board of directors being able to fulfill the mission and to address the needs of the girls and boys all across the community.
