Michelle Livinghouse, Plymouth, announced today her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Indiana State Representative, District 17. District 17 is comprised of all Marshall County and parts of Fulton County: Aubbeenaubbee, Richland, Newcastle, Rochester and Henry townships.
Livinghouse first became interested in politics in 1964 when her mother sent her out to talk to the neighbors in an effort to poll their precinct. She would later serve the same area, District 3 on the Plymouth City Council. Livinghouse also served on the Plymouth Water Board and the Plymouth Plan Commission. She currently serves on the Marshall County Health Board. Livinghouse has a special interest in our community’s families and children and served as a member of the Marshall County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Board in which she served as President. Livinghouse has volunteered for the last ten years with the Plymouth FOP Shop with a Cop program. Concerned about the quality of life issues that confront our community, in 2013 she assisted in forming an ad hoc group of Marshall County residents interested in bringing attention to the need for immigration reform.
Livinghouse is running for State Representative District 17 because she is concerned about our children’s education, the problems with Indiana’s roads and crumbling infrastructure and Indiana’s tarnished business environment due to last year’s passage of RIFRA. Livinghouse has listened and will continue to listen to the concerns of local educators and parents in an effort to understand the problems of our public schools.
Michelle Livinghouse said, “Our local schools are the heart of our rural communities. Indiana is considered the Crossroads of America. We need common sense solutions to repair and maintain our roads and infrastructure as it affects our safety, economic development, and tourism. In this historic Bi-Centennial year we will only be known for our Hoosier Hospitality if we grant Civil Rights to all people and are welcoming to everyone.”
She is married to Frank Filson, together they have three children and an extended family of seven grandchildren.
