Jerry Falkner from Falkner Fabricating in Bourbon appeared before the Marshall County Council Monday morning seeking a tax abatement.

Jerry Chavez, Executive Director of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation said Falkner Fabricating from Bourbon wants to expand their manufacturing facility at US 30 and Elm Road.  The Marshall County EDC has assisted with obtaining the County Council’s support of the tax abatement request.

The expansion represents in real property $925,000 and personal property of $600,000 for a total in the neighborhood of $1.5 million.  The project is expected to create 5 new full time jobs.

Founder and owner, Jerry Falkner said his business started in 1990 welding and doing farm repairs, sand blasting and painting which led them into larger fabricating jobs.  They found their niche in the rack industry for the automotive and window industries.

Starting out with 16,000 square feet of manufacturing space and expanded several years ago with the purchase of the former I & M property.  Falkner said, “In these short few years we have outgrown the building.”

The project is to build a 35,000 square foot addition onto the existing building taking them from a total of about 80,000 square feet to just over 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

Falkner said, “We are doing multiple jobs and the jobs are larger now so the square footage is required. Servicing the automotive and window industries, panel extrusion and the mining industry Falkner said they are busy and competitive.

A  10 year tax abatement was requested on the million dollar project.

On Monday the County Council passes a resolution declaring the area to be in a revitalization area.  They also passed on first reading a 10 year tax abatement for Falkner Fabricating.

A special evening public hearing will be held on Monday, August 3rd at 6:30 p.m. on the tax abatement request.
