click_it_or_ticketThe Marshall County Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday the completion of the national and statewide 2015 Click It or Ticket enforcement mobilization campaign. During the annual 17-day enforcement period, four officers issued 33 citations for lack of seat belt usage/child restraint violations. There were also 20 additional citations and 46 warning citations issued for speed and other infractions. Officers also made arrests for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license during the enforcement period.

 

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2014, 87 percent of drivers and passenger across the nation were wearing seat belts. NHTSA statistics show in 2012 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 12, 174 lives nationwide.In Indiana, in 2013, seat belt usage in passenger cars was 91.6 percent.

 

Click It or Ticket is an annual enforcement effort supported by federal highway safety funding. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute distributes funding to more than 250 participating Indiana law enforcement agencies.
