Derek Sauer, Estimator from Rieth-Riley Construction confirmed Friday that the upcoming street improvement project on the city’s northwest side begins today.

The City of Plymouth, through the Redevelopment Commission has contracted with Rieth-Riley Construction Company to reconstruct Commerce Street, Pioneer Drive, and Gary Drive.  Construction begins today (Monday, April 22) and the anticipated completion date is late May to early June, depending on the weather.

Commerce Drive is now closed to through traffic.  Construction will remove the existing road surface and possibly portions of the base and then repave the road.  This project is expected to take about a week.

Pioneer Drive has been reduced to one lane in each direction.  The Pioneer Drive project will be multi-phased to allow for proper traffic flow, with construction anticipated to take 2 to 3 weeks. Rieth-Riley will completely remove the road surface and base to install a base and driving surface that can hold up to the additional semi-traffic.

Construction along Gary Drive will begin once Pioneer Drive is fully open.  Gary Drive construction is a mill and fill and is anticipated to take a week or two.

Access to the front of business properties and driveways may be limited at times. A detour route will be in place to maintain access to businesses.
