Phend & Brown Inc. Contractors and Engineers out of Milford are building the new bridge over the Elkhart Western Railroad on U.S. 31 in Marshall County. Traffic restrictions for this project are between 13th Road and 14th Road on U.S. 31 south of Plymouth.

Phend & Brown released the following schedule of activities. It was noted that changing weather conditions and or internal schedule changes may alter the dates. Traffic control signage and detour markings have been provided in advance and will be in place during any closure.

During phase 1 the northbound bridge beams are scheduled to be put in place next week.  Work in and around the new bridge has been occurring to facilitate the placement of the bridge beams.

The crane deliveries this week caused traffic in both directions to be slowed and stopped to allow the crane company to unload their equipment. Delays were said to be minimal.

Beam delivery is expected for Tuesday, March 5th and northbound traffic will be slowed to allow for the beams to be staged on the south end of the project. Delays are expected to be minimal.

The bridge beams are expected to be set on Wednesday, March 6th. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be subject to a rolling slowdown-type closure. This will allow for a longer period of working time, 30 minutes of no traffic within the construction zone, to allow the cranes to pick up and move the bridge beams into place. The restrictions will occur intermittently throughout the day between 8 AM and 6 PM. Law Enforcement Officers will be assisting Phend & Brown with traffic control to ensure the slowdowns and delays are as short as possible. However, delays are expected to be lengthy in both travel directions. Alternate routes are suggested to avoid delays.

Work will occur only during daylight hours. Additional information may be obtained from INDOT.
