Tuesday, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) issued the following statement after voting to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas:

“For three years Secretary Mayorkas has refused to comply with and enforce the immigration laws Congress has passed. Instead, he has opted for the political priorities of the progressive left, which include implementing catch-and-release on a mass scale, violating detention requirements, and misusing parole authority.

“This dereliction of duty is why we have an unprecedented security and humanitarian disaster along our southern border. Every state – including Indiana – has become a border state under Secretary Mayorkas’ tenure. Time and again, sheriffs throughout the Second District have spoken to me about how fentanyl is flowing up from the southern border and the havoc these deadly drugs are wreaking on our communities.

“We cannot allow the chaos at the border and the downstream consequences of this Administration’s open-borders agenda to continue. Today’s vote is an important step in delivering accountability and ensuring we end this crisis and stand up for America’s sovereignty by restoring Law and Order to the southern border.”
