Marshall County Police arrested a Merrillville man for suspected ecstasy, marijuana, and a loaded handgun.

On Tuesday, February 6th, at approximately 8:30 in the evening, Officer Wozniak initiated a traffic stop on a gray 2011 Hyundai on U.S. 30 near Rose Road.

During the investigation, the vehicle was searched, and county officers located suspected marijuana, ecstasy, and a loaded firearm.

The driver gave Officer Wozniak a false name but was later identified as Derek S. Daniels, 27 of Merrillville.

Daniels was lodged in the Marshall County Jail for possession of a narcotic drug, possession of marijuana, and false informing and was given a cash bond of $1,500.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
