Blood Donors save lives and residents of Plymouth know that firsthand.  During 2023, the Mayor’s Office partnered with South Bend Medical Foundation for six blood drives which were held near the Fire Station in Plymouth and at the Plymouth Farmer’s Market at River Park Square on Saturday mornings.

“The partnership we have had with the Mayor’s Office in Plymouth has been a great one.  They consistently host blood drives when donors are eligible, which is every 56 days. This year, we collected 156 units which saves the lives of up to 312 people,” said Colleen Hahn, Manager of Blood Donor Recruitment for South Bend Medical Foundation.

South Bend Medical Foundation provides blood to the local hospitals including Beacon Health Systems (Memorial), Saint Joseph Health Systems, and Elkhart General Hospital.

Blood Donors who have not donated with South Bend Medical Foundation should bring identification and 16-year-olds will need parental consent.  There is no age limit for donating blood.  Several of the deferral criteria concerning travel and medications have been changed and if you are unsure if you qualify to donate please contact 574-234-1157.

Blood drives will continue for the Mayor’s Office during 2024 and will be held in the South Bend Medical Foundation’s mobile blood facility at the Plymouth Fire Station or at River Park Square during Farmer’s Market season.  This year’s dates are on the following dates: February 24, April 20, June 22, August 17, October 12, and December 17.  Blood donations will be accepted from 8 a.m. until noon.
