Mayor Robert Listenberger welcomed several guests to the swearing-in ceremony for Police Chief John Weir Thursday morning in the council chambers of city hall.

The mayor said, “It’s been 11 years since Plymouth has had a new police chief.  I would first like to thank David Bacon who served Plymouth honorably I think for over 30 years.”  He continued, “On behalf of the mayor, the city council, and the citizens of Plymouth we thank you very much.”

Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer Lynn Gorski then officiated over the swearing-in.

Mayor Listenberger then introduced John Weir as the city’s new Police Chief.

Chief Weir has been with the Plymouth Police Department since 1999 and the mayor said he’s been an exemplary officer all these years.  Listenberger said, “I really have all the confidence and faith in this man.  Congratulations.”

Former Police Chief David Bacon has been moved to a sergeant’s position with the department until his retirement on February 29th.  He is currently using the remainder of his vacation time and not working a regular shift.
