City of Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger is pleased to announce that Veteran Plymouth Police Officer, John Weir has accepted the position of Chief of Police for the City of Plymouth to begin on February 1st.

The mayor said, “Officer Weir has displayed exemplary service as a Plymouth Police Officer since 1999.”

Before becoming a police officer, Weir joined the Army Reserve in 1988, where he earned multiple military awards, including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Marksman Rifle Badge, Sharpshooter .45 Pistol Badge, Expert 9MM Pistol Badge, and Expert Grenade Badge. Officer Wier served in Operation Desert Shield-Storm in 1990 and 1991.

Officer Weir is a member of Plymouth F.O.P. and has served as its Vice-President since 2005. From 2000 to 2005, he was a member of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department.

Officer Weir is married to Carey, and they have two children, Sydni and Colton.

Mayor Listenberger would like to congratulate Officer Weir on his promotion and looks forward to working with him in the future.
