North Township Trustee, Emily Haskins is announcing a schedule of meetings with North Township and the Town of LaPaz.

The two entities will be conducting their public hearings regarding the possible formation of a fire territory.  The meetings will be held on Tuesday, January 30, Tuesday, February 20, and Tuesday, February 27, all at 6:00 p.m. at the LaPaz Fire Station located at 411 South Michigan Street in LaPaz.

Haskins said, “We’ve published a notice in the Pilot News as is required by law, and we’ve also sent out a postcard to more than 5,600 households.”  Haskins said there are only 1,640 households in North Township, but the service we’re using is going to hit substantially more than that.

The trustee is working hard to make sure all citizens who will be impacted if a fire territory is created are notified of the public hearings.  She said she is using print, radio, mail, the community message board, and social media to get the word out.

The official notice states:

Notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the Town of LaPaz and North Township, Marshall County, Indiana, that a joint public hearing will be held before the LaPaz Town Council and the North Township Board on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. at the LaPaz Volunteer Fire Department, 411 South Michigan Street, LaPaz, Indiana, to consider a proposed ordinance, resolution, and an interlocal agreement for the establishment of the LaPaz North Township Fire Protection Territory beginning with taxes payable in 2025.
