A 74-year-old Beech Grove man is in the Marshall County Jail with a charge of unlawful entry of school property by a serious sex offender.   

On Wednesday, December 21st the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint that a serious sex offender had gone onto the property of Culver Academy and was allegedly taking pictures of students.

Detective Les McFarland with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department began an investigation.  His report was completed and submitted to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

An arrest warrant was then issued for James F. Renick, of Beech Grove and on Wednesday, December 21, officers of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department along with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department located and arrested James F. Renick.

Renick was transported and booked into the Marshall County Jail for a level 6 felony.  He is being held in jail on a $1,500 cash bond. 

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
