In December 2015 the Marshall County Commissioners enacted a horse-drawn buggy license plate ordinance.

The ordinance, which requires the licensing of horse-drawn vehicles, is geared toward the Amish population in Marshall County.  The ordinance charges an annual license of $50 per horse-drawn vehicle but doesn’t affect horse-drawn agricultural equipment.

The funds generated from the buggy licenses were designated to the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund for the repair of county roads.

This year 950 plates/stickers were sold generating $47,725. for the County Highway Department.
