Earlier this month the Marshall County Commissioners accepted and opened bids for the lease of the agricultural farm ground at Shady Rest.  The lease agreement is for a period of three years, from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026.

Bids were submitted on a per-acre basis for the tillable land.  County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the commissioners the new agreement reduced the number of available acres from 161 to 129 acres.  He said that 30 acres were removed from the current lease to allow the County Highway Department more land for growth, development, and storage.

Only two bids were received for the farm lease, from Juri’s Place on King Road and Vores Farms in Argos.  Juri’s Place offered a bid of $257.00 per acre and Vores Farms submitted a bid of $282.75.  It was noted that the current lease agreement bid amount is $257.50 an acre.

Commissioner Stan Klotz wanted clarification that the contract calls for tillable acres and that the 129 acres was the correct amount.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer motioned to accept the high bid of Vores Farms from Argos at $282.75 per acre and his motion was seconded by Commissioner Mike Burroughs.  The motion passed with a 3-0 vote.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger will prepare a new lease agreement for Vores Farms that the commissioners approve at their next meeting.
