On Sunday, May 7th, 2023 at approximately 5:45 in the morning, Officer Wozniak with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the area of 4B Road and Queen Road for reports of a disabled vehicle in the roadway.

Upon arrival, the officer found Shane T. Guffey of Berrien Springs, Michigan with the vehicle. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was only 20 years of age. Another occupant within the vehicle was walking in the area and was found by Officer Haygood.  

Juan C.A. Wilches is from Berrien Springs, Michigan. He was also found to be under the influence of alcohol and was only 19 years of age.

Both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and Illegal Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage.

The vehicle they were in was towed by Lyon’s Towing and each was held in the Marshall County Jail on a $250 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
