Friday afternoon at 3:28, deputies with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the intersection of US 30 and SR 39, rural Hanna Township, for a two-vehicle crash.
The police report said a blue 2008 Honda, driven by Brent L. Freyenberger, 39, of Plymouth, was traveling west on US 30 and disregarded the traffic control device at the intersection with State Road 39 and was struck by a commercial motor vehicle.
Freyenberger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi, Kody J. Hansen, 27 of North Judson was operating a 2021 Kenworth. Hansen told deputies that while proceeding through the intersection his vehicle was struck by the passenger vehicle. He sustained an upper-body injury.
Two witnesses provided accounts of the crash. Both witnesses said the passenger vehicle disregarded the traffic control device and collided with the semi.
Toxicology tests are pending. The crash investigation is ongoing.
