The National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING for all of northern Indiana including Marshall County and the surrounding counties.  The RED FLAG WARNING is in effect today from noon until 8 p.m.

This afternoon and evening we will have strong southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph and low relative humidity as low as 20%.   Temperatures will be high near 80.

The combination of strong winds, very low relative humidity, and abnormally dry conditions will promote the rapid spread of any fires. The threat will be greatest in rural areas where fine dead fuels will continue to dry out and be susceptible to rapid fire spreading from any ignition source. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now…. or will shortly. A combination of strong winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures can

contribute to extreme fire behavior.
