The beautiful new pavilion in River Park Square received a substantial donation from the Plymouth VFW.

During Monday’s Plymouth Park Board meeting, the board accepted a $15,000 donation from the Plymouth VFW to help with expenses for the new structure.

Park Superintendent Mike Hite said he was approached by the organization that has lost membership and even their building.  Some of the funds remaining in their account were pledged to the Plymouth Park Department for the new pavilion.

Superintendent Hite said he would like to name the shelter using the VFW name but at this point hasn’t made an official decision.  Hite said he plans to place a plaque on a large boulder that will be located near the pavilion, like one at the Hoosier Old Wheels pavilion.

The Plymouth Park Board was grateful for the opportunity to accept the sizable donation from the VFW. Superintendent Hite said he believes naming the pavilion in honor of the VFW fits perfectly with the Veterans Memorial Plaza that is also included in phase II of the River Park Square.  Phase II of River Park Square is a Stellar Communities project funded by a grant from OCRA with matching funds from the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission.
