The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar will be shown at The REES Theatre on Good Friday, April 7 at 7:00 pm.

Jesus Christ Superstar is a passion narrative most like the Gospel of Mark’s portrayal of the story.  The movie tells the story of the final six days in the life of Jesus Christ through the troubled eyes of Judas Iscariot who is worried about Jesus’ popularity.  Being hailed as the son of God, Judas feels Jesus has too much faith in his own message and fears the consequences of their growing movement.

Meanwhile, temple priests including Caiaphas, Annas and the Pharisees are worried that the Romans will see Jesus’s popularity as an uprising, and all agree he must be executed.

1972 to 1973 was a period of declining interest in religion worldwide, but also filled with movies with religious themes, not unlike the present.

Jesus Christ Superstar is rated G but is an intense production. Admission is $5 for individuals 13 and over, free to those 12 and under accompanied by a paying adult.

The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ are the community sponsors of this event.

Tickets can be purchased at the door, Fernbaugh’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry or at  www.reestheatre.com.
