In August last year the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved the purchase of two columbariums for Oakhill Cemetery.

Cemetery Superintendent Mike Collins had budgeted $50,000 for the project and when bids were opened the Remembrance Centre provided the low bid at $18,030.  Collins was granted permission to purchase two 48-niche columbariums and told the board there was enough money left in the budget to complete the sidewalks and foundations.

The city had previously purchased a 72-niche columbarium and Collins said it had taken about 10-years to fill.  He also told them cremations are becoming more popular and the need for another columbarium was growing.

The new columbariums were installed in Oakhill Cemetery last week.
