Last week the Marshall County Commissioners and County Council approved grant requests for Community Corrections and Superior Court III’s Drug Court.

Ward Byers, Director of Community Corrections said the grant request is to apply for 2024 funding from the Indiana Department of Corrections.  The total grant amount is $489,766.  Byers explained that $362,802 is for Marshall County Community Corrections, $61,964 is for the Prosecutor’s Felony Pre-Trial Diversion program and $65,000 for Marshall Superior Court III Drug Court.

Byers told the Council his department operates with no funding through the county government.   When asked what the grant pays for Byers said, lease payments for their offices, vehicles, salaries, benefits, utilities, and more.  He also noted that the $5,000 stipend for the Problem-Solving Court is also included in the grant funds.

Christie Johnson appeared before the Commissioners seeking approval to apply for two grants.  The first grant is in the amount of $3,380 from Indiana Court Services Problem Solving Court.  The funds will be used for incentives and drug screens.  The second grant was in the amount of $2,500 from the local Drug-Free Committee.  These funds will also be used for drug screens and educational material.
