On December 6th the Plymouth Community School Board accepted bids for the Washington Discovery Academy renovation work.

Two bids were presented from Gibson-Lewis Inc. and from R Yoder Construction.  The HVAC project included a base bid and five alternates.  The alternates included 1. replacing the existing chiller and chiller pump; 2. replacing existing gym air handlers; 3. replacing office HVAC, lighting, and ceiling; 4. removing existing vinyl wallcoverings, prep, and paint; and finally, 5. replacing carpet throughout Washington Discovery Academy.

Architects and engineers for the project from Barton Coe Vilamaa bid the alternates due to the unprecedented inflation over the past year.  They felt the project scope including all the alternates was at the high end of the budget.  It was anticipated as the project went to bid, so the decision was made to bid the alternates to protect the overall budget of the project.

The two base bids were $3,312,000 from Gibson-Lewis and $2,890,959 from R. Yoder Construction.

Alternate bids were

#1 $348,000 for Gibson-Lewis and $291,886 from R. Yoder

#2 $392,000 for Gibson-Lewis and $234,158 from R. Yoder

#3 $173,000 for Gibson-Lewis and $135,292 from R. Yoder

#4 $85,000 from Gibson-Lewis and $82,021 from R. Yoder

#5 $143,000 from Gibson-Lewis and $151,262 from R. Yoder

The Plymouth Community School Board accepted the low bid of R. Yoder Construction and rejected all five alternates to protect the budget for the project at Washington Discovery Academy.
