On Friday, November 4th, 2022 at approximately 10:30 PM, Marshall County Police, along with LaPaz Fire and Tri-County EMS were dispatched to the Speedway Gas Station in LaPaz for a male unresponsive behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Arriving on the scene, Officer Wozniak located 32-year-old Michael J. Vail of South Bend, alert, but disoriented. During the investigation, the officers could see drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the findings of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, marijuana, and paraphernalia.

Michael Vail was taken to the Plymouth Hospital for jail clearance and later transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked in for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana.  He was held on a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
