The Marshall County Solid Waste Management District is only accepting floor-standing appliances with Freon as of November 1. This includes refrigerators, freezers, and dehumidifiers. Freon is a strong pollutant, and District employees are certified to remove and recycle it. Other floor-standing appliances without Freon, as well as all other household scrap including siding, metal furniture, exercise equipment, and gas-powered lawn equipment, must go to a scrapyard.

The district will still accept small non-Freon appliances such as microwaves, toasters, and vacuums.

District Director Marianne Peters encourages residents to take floor-standing non-Freon appliances such as washers and dryers as well as other household metals to scrapyards, including Lewis Salvage in Warsaw, La Paz Iron & Metal in La Paz, and Rochester Iron & Metal in Rochester. If you are unsure what the Recycle Depot accepts, give them a call or check out their website.

The Recycle Depot is Marshall County’s headquarters for recycling, household hazardous waste disposal, and environmental education. Compost bins and supplies, as well as rain barrel kits, are also available for sale. The Depot is located at 1900 Walter Glaub Drive, Plymouth, Indiana.
