The Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) has started its year-long process of developing the Michiana on the Move: 2050 Transportation Plan, a long-range transportation plan spanning the four-county region, encompassing Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall, and St. Joseph County. This plan acts as a blueprint for how the region will address transportation needs and how federal, state, and local funding will be invested in roads and bridges, public transit, and active transportation infrastructure, amongst other focus areas.

Public input is a major component of this transportation plan. We want to hear from you about how you move in the region, what transportation issues impact your daily life, and how we should prioritize future improvements. A short survey and comment map is now available at www.move.macog.com to gather your feedback. This survey will be open until the end of November, at which point one lucky survey participant will be selected to win a $150 gift card.

Throughout the next year, MACOG will be hosting several different engagement opportunities, such as additional surveys, public open houses, and community pop-up events. Our primary focus is to ensure that this plan aligns with and reflects the values and goals of our region’s residents. Those interested in staying informed about upcoming events can sign up for our emailing list on the above-mentioned website.

The Michiana on the Move: 2050 Transportation Plan will ultimately establish priorities and guidance that will inform future policy and transportation projects so that our region can better invest and prepare for the growth of our transportation network. A final plan is expected to be adopted by September 2023.
