Marianne Peters, Executive Director of the Marshall County Solid Waste Management District was granted an additional appropriation for the biannual maintenance and additional parts for their horizontal baler.

Peters told the County Council Monday that the baler is 14 years old and is used to provide cardboard recycling for residents and businesses of the county for FREE.  The cardboard is bailed and then transported to a recycler in Elkhart called TriPower.  The revenue generated from the sale of cardboard comes right back into the Solid Waste District.

Peters told them she needed an appropriation for $6,933 for the biannual maintenance and additional repairs on the machine so they can continue to bail.

This is an important piece of equipment for the Recycling Depot.  Last year they bailed 173 tons of cardboard.

The local Solid Waste District Board gave prior approval to request the additional appropriation.

The County Council unanimously approved the additional request.
