Marshall County Sheriff Matthew Hassel announced Monday that the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has added a new K-9 to the force. This will bring the K-9 force back to two K-9s like it was earlier this year before K-9 Irok was retired.

The new K-9 is Bear a male German Shepherd who will turn 3 this Wednesday. Bear served with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department from September 25, 2020, until May 6, 2022, when he was donated to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Bear is trained in drug detection, tracking, article search, and aggression.

Deputy Curtis Tempelman has been selected to be Bear’s K-9 handler and he will start his training with Bear in June.
